GRANT PROPOSAL PROCESS
The National Self Government Committee provides grants of between $500 and $3,000 to fund proposals
that promote student initiated programs, in the New York metropolitan region. The grants are awarded
in January, and the project must be completed by June 30th of the same year. Proposals must be
received no later than December 15th.
The Committee is interested in school/community service projects that ultimately involve a large
number of students in the self government process. The proposal should enhance the quality of life
within the school and/or the community. Since the Committee is particularly interested in promoting
good citizenship we will look favorably upon projects that increase the understanding of, and
appreciation for: the process of local, state and city government; the ways in which public policy
impacts on the lives of citizens; environmental responsibility; diversity; immigration; violence
prevention; and school based management and student government. Salaries and honorariums are usually
not funded. Special consideration will be given to projects that heighten awareness and promote a
greater understanding of the political process.
The proposals should be limited to three typewritten pages and submitted on the school's stationary.
Each proposal must be signed by the proposed project's student leaders, the faculty adviser and the
principal. The selected school will be required to submit a complete report and evaluation of the
funded project by June 30th of the grant year.
